ChampionChip

During the fall of 2007, it was announced that the 2008 Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K & 5K and Gasparilla Marathon, Half Marathon & Marathon Relay would be timed utilizing the new SAI Timing System. One of the attractive features of SAI Timing is that the ‘tags’ distributed to each runner are disposable and for one time use only.

Because of challenges that arose during the 2007 Honolulu Marathon, SAI Timing System’s creator David Simms, has recommended that so as not to risk the integrity and reputation of the 2008 Gasparilla Running Events, instead of utilizing SAI, we should remain with ChampionChip and thus Event Tech Timing will provide all timing for the 15K, 5k, Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay.

Thus, when registered runners and walkers pick-up their Runner Goody Bag, shirt and assigned race numbers, they will also be given the usual black ChampionChip. These chips should be affixed to the runner’s shoe and above all, and unless you are participating in either the Bud Light Challenge or Michelob Ultra Challenge, MUST be returned upon crossing the Finish Line. Challenge participants WILL return their ChampionChips on Sunday after completing the Gasparilla Marathon or Half Marathon.

As we approach Race Weekend, we ask for your patience and understanding and we can all look forward to utilizing the SAI Timing System in 2009!
