Presented By The Gonzmart Family Foundation, The Mendez Foundation, Kelloggs, Publix Super Markets, Nike & The YMCA

Let Me Play

Obesity in children and adolescents is a serious issue with many health and social consequences that often continue into adulthood.

Children's lives can be impacted in a fun and enjoyable way by teaching the development of life skills that will result in their living a more healthy, safe and balanced life.

The Gasparilla Distance Classic Association organized efforts will be dedicated towards offering middle school age children the opportunity to train for participation in the Tampa Bay Gasparilla Distance Classic running events and learn valuable life lessons at the same time.

YMCA Trained and Certified Staff will build Asset Rich Environments for the middle school aged boys and girls from St. Peter Claver Catholic School and the Central City YMCA.

The kids will participate in an 8-week program that teaches life skills and introduces running as a fitness activity. The program will culminate with Race Weekend where they will run the final mile of the Tampa Bay Gasparilla Marathon with Columbia Restaurant CEO Richard Gonzmart and The Mendez Foundation's Vice President, Charles Mendez III. The Let Me Play Kids will also serve as volunteers for the marathon and experience"giving back to the community."
