WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THE  

GASPARILLA 5+3K?

The Gasparilla 5+3K is actually an 8K (4.97 miles). 

The 8K distance isn't as recognizable as a 5K or 10K and thus, doesn't provide as much opportunity for comparing results with other events that the runner or walker might have participated in. 

Because of this, the Gasparilla Distance Classic Association will place a Structure and ChronoTrack Timing System at the 5K mark and 8K Finish Line.  Runners and walkers will be provided with results that include an Official 5K Time and an Official 8K Time.

There is also the hope that some runners and walkers that are currently participating in the Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic 5K might consider moving up to the 8K distance or perhaps even running or walking in both.
